Island Time

I'm alive!

I've just been really busy..... with stuff like OCD cleaning (apparently Fall is the new "spring clean" season around here), Abigail's preschool, PEPS, Fall parties, and redecorating our house in non-Goodwill decor (picky, picky...)  And who knew a computer would crash once it hit 17,000 pictures stored?!...

Either way, I'm back and catching up.

First order of business: Whidbey Island!

We headed to Whidbey last weekend for a relaxing getaway and spent time soaking in the awesome autumn weather, kicking back, and exploring this charming island.

Abigail, my parents, and I left on Thursday morning, then Kevin and Victor joined us late Friday afternoon- such is the life of the 9-5er ;)

We spent most of Thursday settling in, then drove to Anacortes on Friday to check out a really yummy bakery: Calico Cupboard.

A lovely cafe with delicious baked goods.

Abigail especially loved their bananas...  :)  and visiting with just about anyone who would look at her

After breakfast we strolled around Anacortes.

There are lots of delightful antique shops, great looking restaurants, and of course, a book store that we just had to stop at (remember, we were with my Dad...)

It's a great area to spend an afternoon walking around and window shopping (or my preference- shopping-shopping!)

From there is was off to Deception Pass...

...then back home for dinner where we discovered Abigail's new favorite food: dolmades!

(for all you non-slavic/greek/arab readers, dolmades are stuffed grape leaves)

Scottish genes may die hard (hence her mini-me-Mama appearances), but the Serb lives on in her taste buds.

Ziveli!

And just look at how skinny this kid is!!  I swear we feed her.

(Mamie assures me it's genetic...both she and Kevin were super skinny kids)

Proof's in the pudding  ;)

But I digress.  It's always worth digressing to show pictures of "little Kevin"  :)

Saturday we drove to Coupeville for the weekly farmers market where we scored some delicious blueberries and kettle corn, then down to the town of Coupeville for lunch.

If you find yourself in the area, be sure to stop in at Mosquito Fleet Chili- they make a mean chowder!

And the area is so charming to boot....

On the way back to the car, Abigail made two new friends....

We made one more pit stop... Camp Casey- an old costal artillery post, turned camp / conference center where Victor and I spent our summers at soccer camp (mainly Victor.  I went once...maybe twice, and hated it...too much energy exerted for my taste ;)

We spent a few hours walking around, checking out the post, and watching kites fly, then it was back to the house for some R&R (read: Mommy and Abigail took naps).

It was such a fun weekend, and we couldn't have asked for better autumn weather.

It was the perfect Fall getaway: Lauckner approved!
