20 Week Ultrasound

Here are some adorable pictures from Baby's 20 week ultrasound! They ( I use the term "they" instead of "it"... not to be confused with the twin "they"! ) were moving around so much that the appointment took 20 minutes longer than usual.  But we really enjoyed getting so much face time with Baby. Well, I did anyway.  Kevin told me afterward that he was fighting to stay awake after 15 minutes.  Such a guy! Everything checked out great, and we stuck to our guns to wait and find out the gender, so it looks like your due date will be the next time we see you, Baby! (18 weeks and counting..!) Since my parents watched Abigail during our appointment, we went downtown for dinner at Local 360 . The food was good, but I give it a rating of "meh" .  We were thinking more farm-to-table-fresh, but it was a heavier style comfort food.  Still good!  Just not what we were expecting. Pizza Time!

Here's what pizza night looks like at our house... Doesn't she look JUST like Kevin in this next picture? The fact that Abigail looks so much like myself while also being a dead ringer for Kevin still ceases to amazing me.... Oh genetics  ;) Happy Friday, Everyone!

Date Night

Remember when I used talked about weekly date nights ? I was pretty funny... and completely delusional. For Father's Day this year, I got Kevin a Cajun cooking class at Marcela's Creole Cookery and on Wednesday night, we finally made a date of it! Kevin is a huge fan of Cajun cooking, and I'm a huge fan of food in general, so it was the perfect night. We received tons of good Southern cooking tips, and ate lots of delicious food, but there were a few dishes in particular that were outstanding, so I wanted to share them (measurements were not given for everything, but just think in proportion). Creole Garlic Shrimp Crostini: Melt butter (1/2-1lb!), add garlic, pinch black pepper, creole seasoning, and finely chopped green onion.  Add shrimp and saute until shrimp are done.  Place atop toasted crusty french bread, or bread of choice. Smothered Chicken: Salt and pepper bone-in chicken tights and brown in frying pan with a little oil (in southern coo...

Happy Friday!

May your weekend be as joyous as Abigail's spaghetti lunch (and subsequent kitchen sink bath) Cheers!

The Littlest Foodie

Abigail + Carrots = likes them somewhat... Yesterday was the big day; we reeved up the Beaba and made carrots for Abigail! She's not keen on opening her mouth very far (so you have to shove it in there a bit), but she seems to like it. For the last few weeks she's been carefully studying us while we eat, and the last few nights she hasn't slept well (I'm thinking she was hungry), so we decided it was time to start solids. We even practiced a few days ago by letting her suck on an apple... But yesterday, aside from a few gagging bouts, she seemed very happy to be eating at the table like a big girl! This morning we gave her more and she seems to be doing great; still a but unsure, but pretty amazed by the whole ordeal. Once we clear carrots as a safe food, we'll be moving on to avocados.  Yum! For those of you interested in the play-by-play (read: Mamie, Papa, Gma, Gpa), below is the video.  Pretty b...

Why we missed church on Saturday...

Three words:   The Wing Dome . Or, more precisely: 7 Alarm Wings We were on our way home to get ready for church when we passed the Wing Dome.  Kevin, knowing I'd had a rough week, suggested we grab a beer and wings before church. Perfect! And it was.  It gave us some time to decompress from an emotionally stressful week, enjoy a beer, and just catch up.  However, right before we were going to leave, Kevin decided he'd take on a little challenge: the 7 alarm wing.  Mind you, this isn't the full challenge , but still... Maybe he knew how badly I needed a good laugh. Ready to go.  Getting prepped with a sip of beer At first he said he'd only try a bite or two, but he really starting going after it... Potential panic starting to kick in? I was shocked he ate the whole wing, and as he finished, his composure started to diminish...panicked look on his face, eyes watering fiercely. Then it really kicked in. haha! He says the second...

Quickie Brownies

Who doesn't like keeping few quick treats around the house? All it takes is 1/3 cup of water, 1/3 cup of oil, and one egg. So next time you're at Costco, pick up a carton box. They're delicious!

Top that muffin!

They taste a lot better than they look... Witty title, eh? Sometimes we sit around joking about new blog titles, and this time, Kevin won. Usually I win....   ;) I found a receipe earlier this week and whipped up a quick batch.  I made a few adjustments to the receipes, but it's noted below. Seriously a good tastin' blueberry muffin; and the brown sugar/ butter concoction on top is to die for! Ingredients 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 cup white sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/3 cup vegetable oil 1 egg 1/3 cup milk 1 cup fresh blueberries Topping's Ingredients 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/3 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 cup butter, cubed 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon Directions 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease muffin cups or line with muffin liners.  2.  Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 3/4 cup sugar, salt and baking powder. Place vegetable oil into a 1 cup measuring cup; add the egg and enough milk to fill...

Baby Burrito

We brought Abigail to Gorditos last night to size her up against the competition. I didn't swaddling her very tight, so I thought for sure she'd be much bigger than the burrito, but not really.... have to say, this is a pretty big burrito! 5 minutes later, after fussing with the swaddle, taking a million pictures from different angles, and turning her head left to right like a toy doll, we settled in to enjoy the feast. And of course, we polished it off! Now we just need to print a copy for Gorditos to hang on their wall. She'll be famous!  ;)

A Taste of Morocco

The plan was to head to Kasbah  for my birthday last Thursday, but after a full day of activities and shopping,  I was exhausted.  So we opted to rain check for Sunday night; something to look forward to once Kevin got back from Michigan. Headed out last night for a nice walk to the restaurant.  Turns out Abigail's not a fan of bumpy roads, but since Seattle is clearly not focused on funding our roads, she'll have to get used to it... And you know how we've been bragging about what a chill baby she is?  Well, she mixed things up last night and stayed awake through dinner and her very own 4 course meal...  Luckily we were sitting in a corner, so I was able to feed her without being too obvious or hippie-like about it. Although in true Abigail form, she never cried, so really, I have nothing to complain about.... She opted for the cushion between us instead of her stroller No belly dancers last night, so we made up our own African napkin danc...

Zucchini Mania

My parents brought us "a few" zucchini's from some family friends this weekend. I was thinking, "great, I'll use them in a veggie saute" , but what I didn't realize was the amount we were inheriting... I mean, really.  At some point you cross the line between gracious and obscene.   So, this left us with only one option:  time to bake! So we baked.... And baked.... And baked.... AND baked.... And in the end, guess how much zucchini we went through? Yep. One.  One, huge, 6lb, newborn sized, zucchini. And we still have 3.... But we did find a really yummy recipe for bread, muffins, and cake that I wanted to share. Simply use a variation of the below and you too can turn a festival-sized zucchini into treats for your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, distant relatives, homeless man down the street, and any other random person you wish! For ours, we used raisins in the bread, then cranberries and chocolate chips in the...
