13 months

We've hit the brink.  The point where counting months starts getting creepy.

Don't get me wrong, if you're talking shop with other like minded Mama's, it's acceptable (and semi-expected), but when the old lady at the grocery store stops and says, "oh, she's just precious!  How old?"  What they're not expecting to hear is "oh, she'll be 14 months and 3 weeks... tomorrow"

So with that said, today Abigail turns 13 months and 1 day  :)

(see, it's weird)

Here are some fun facts from the last month:

Standing- Abigail was quite reluctant to start standing (and heaven forbid, let go or fall), but this past month she's mastered standing and squatting.  She plays peak-a-boo this way.  Entertaining us by ducking behind the coffee table, then slowly getting up to surprise us with a huge smile and giggles.

Talking- "A-Ca!", "Ca!", "Ahhh!"  I thought we had our first word, but I think these are actually all encompassing phrases.

  • "Oh Minnie!  It's you!" = "Ahhh!, A-Ca!"
  • "What is this furry creature?" = "Ca?!"
  • "Oh look Mom, a dog!" = "A-Ca!"

....you get the point.  And to make matters worse, I was cleaning under her highchair at a restaurant yesterday, bent over with my hair right at highchair level, when she reached over, pet my hair, and said "A-Ca!"  I think calling this an official first word will have to wait...

Eating-  Since Dr. Spector put her on the high fat diet, she's been enjoying lots of delicious food.  Her favorites are milkshakes (she gets really upset every time she finishes one), macaroni salad, whole milk, baked beans, and potato salad.

Crawling- Abigail gets around at lighting speed via crawling.  You take your eyes off her and there she goes...off to another room (and into trouble) in the blink of an eye.  Kevin and she play "Abigail's Adventures" almost every night: she crawls around everywhere, and he follows her.  She thinks it's hilarious to watch us crawl.

Stairs- She's mastering the stairs- both a good and bad thing.  She practices on Grandma's stairs every Monday and Friday (shallow, wide ones), but she's set on mastering the steep ones at home.  Baby gates are in full effect.

Sleep- We've been having a tough go with naps (Abigail and I are in opposing camps on this one).  I think she's transitioning to one nap a day, but I'm fighting it tooth and nail...

Socializing-  She loves watching and studying other kids; especially older ones.  We took her to the Aquarium the other day, and all she did was stare at other little kids.  Like this....

So we're starting one day a week preschool next week!  I can't wait; she'll love it.

***

Abigail, you are such a delight!  You make being a Mom look easy, and make every day an "Abigail Adventure" with your contagious giggles, deep curiosity, and funny sense of humor (yes- you definitely have one already!)

Dad and I love you so much, baby girl.

20 week ultrasound

Yesterday Kevin and I went to our 20 week ultrasound.  Everything looked great and the two questions still lingering in my mind were confirmed. 1) Yes, it's a boy! 2) Nope, I'm not having twins  :) I've heard it a million times: with each pregnancy you pop a little sooner, but when I was in maternity pants at 12 weeks, I thought surely there must be two in there... Here are some pictures, if you'd like to see. During George's 20 week ultrasound Kevin admitted he'd almost fallen asleep, so I will admit: I had a hard time staying awake this time  :) But we did get to see him in 4D ultrasound which we've never done before, so that was really cool. So fun! After our appointment we went to breakfast at Salish Lodge and took my first Month of Bumps picture. (cue shrills of excitement from everyone eager to see belly pics for the next 4 months!) Before taking the picture I (lovingly) assured Kevin that yes, we would be taking

Cocina Esperanza

Just had to give a shout out to our new restaurant find!  Kevin and I were driving around the Sunset Hill / Blue Ridge neighborhoods last weekend and came upon this little Mexican restaurant.  A very unassuming place...small brick building near the corner of NW 85th & 30th Ave (right next to the north entrance of Golden Garden's and Shilshole Bay Marina).  We finally got around to checking it out late last week, and oh boy, have we been missing out!! Now, any of you who know me, know I'm a self proclaimed Mexican food connoisseur...and by connoisseur, I mean boarder line obsessive.  I love all things Mexican cuisine...especially melted cheese.  So I should admit; their whole "authentic" label had me a bit apprehensive ...."will there be enough melted cheese on my food??"   was sadly my first thought  (hey, I'm pregnant...give a girl a break!)  So, late last week, we wandered in, found a nice table by the window, ordered the queso dip (yep, the

Two!

Yesterday you turned two; I can hardly believe it! Two year pictures, wearing a dress I wore when I was little You are such a funny, sweet little girl, and I love seeing your personality unfold more each day.  This last month you've really started coming out of your shell and love making people laugh; whether tickling "gee gee gee gee" , or joking around (the other day you took a doll house high chair and pretended to sit in it...all the while looking back at me smiling and laughing like "look, I'm going to try and sit in this teeny highchair!" ), you sure know how to make us laugh. Music is your first love.  Beach Boys Greatest Hits is the current album favorite , so we listen to it in the car every day.  Mainly to Barbara Ann (you always request "ba ba ba" ).  You also love listening to Swiss music with Grandma and having Dad play "Abigail Loves Cheese" on his guitar when he gets home at night. Schwingfest is this Saturday a
