Susie Homemaker: Take 1

I've gotta say, not bad for a first attempt.  Then again, I don't bake much, so take it for what it's worth...

This banana bread recipe comes from my co-worker, Mandy.  Super easy and straightforward.  Just take all the ingredients below, mix them together, then bake for 50 minutes.  Recipe calls for 35-40 minutes @ 350 degrees, but it definitely needed more time.

Also, I added 4 teaspoons of vanilla and a large handful of brown sugar

2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 1/4 c. sugar
2/3 c. shortening
2/3 c. nuts (I used pecans)
4 bananas
1/2 c. buttermilk

If you try this recipe, let me know what you think.  I'd love some feedback!

Yeah, I was thinking that at least the table setting one would be a good SMARTS article. Oh and by the way, I meant to (but totally forgot to!) give you and big Thank You shout out for the bread pans.... without which, none of this would be possible!! :)

20 week ultrasound

Yesterday Kevin and I went to our 20 week ultrasound.  Everything looked great and the two questions still lingering in my mind were confirmed. 1) Yes, it's a boy! 2) Nope, I'm not having twins  :) I've heard it a million times: with each pregnancy you pop a little sooner, but when I was in maternity pants at 12 weeks, I thought surely there must be two in there... Here are some pictures, if you'd like to see. During George's 20 week ultrasound Kevin admitted he'd almost fallen asleep, so I will admit: I had a hard time staying awake this time  :) But we did get to see him in 4D ultrasound which we've never done before, so that was really cool. So fun! After our appointment we went to breakfast at Salish Lodge and took my first Month of Bumps picture. (cue shrills of excitement from everyone eager to see belly pics for the next 4 months!) Before taking the picture I (lovingly) assured Kevin that yes, we would be taking...

A Suburban NYE

We partied hard with neighbors for New Year's Eve this year, and it was perfect - no need to dress up, tackle crowds, or spend big bucks - add to that great friends who are also neighbors, and it's a win/win.

Merry Christmas!

May your day be Merry and Bright!
