A day in Athens

Our initial plan was to pass through Athens on our way to Istanbul (our Mykonos--> Istanbul flight) but a few months before the trip, we decided to make a day of it (11 hour layover).

So, we took a short plane ride to Athens from Mykonos, checked our bags at the airport, then it was off to see the sites! A 30 minute train ride and one transfer later, we were at the base of the Acropolis. We headed there first, then made our way to the museum, and The Plaka later in the day.

Below are some pictures of our day in Athens!

Concerts are still performed at the Herod Atticus Theater, so the next time we're in town, we're going to one for sure.

How cool, we had no idea!

Making our way up the Sacred Rock
Some views of Athens below...

First glimpse of the Parthenon!
Notice where Kevin's finger is pointing...these areas have a lighter (newer) marble. This is replacement marble to help reconstruct and preserve the sites. Amazing to see all the reconstructive work...very exact....very impressive.

Posing like Greek Gods in front of the Parthenon; I opted for a philosophical pose.

And like any good tourist, a picture of us in front of the Parthenon.

Looking down towards the New Museum (modern building with smokey windows)

After a couple of hours in the heat, it was time to hit up the air conditioned New Acropolis Museum.

Neither Kevin or I are history buffs, but we couldn't help being sucked in. My pictures don't do it justice (and you can't take pictures inside), so check out their website below. So glad we went.

After a few hours at the museum, we headed to The Plaka for lunch and shopping. We found a great place for lunch with live music and locals.

A perfect last meal in Greece!

Greek meets American humor

After our late lunch, it was back to the airport and off to Istanbul!

The picture below is Kevin conceding to me as Master of the train system. When you've got it, you've got it!

Then back on the plane we enjoyed yet another meal; good ol' European airlines.

45 minutes later we touched down in Istanbul.

What an adventure we had in store for us!

20 week ultrasound

Yesterday Kevin and I went to our 20 week ultrasound.  Everything looked great and the two questions still lingering in my mind were confirmed. 1) Yes, it's a boy! 2) Nope, I'm not having twins  :) I've heard it a million times: with each pregnancy you pop a little sooner, but when I was in maternity pants at 12 weeks, I thought surely there must be two in there... Here are some pictures, if you'd like to see. During George's 20 week ultrasound Kevin admitted he'd almost fallen asleep, so I will admit: I had a hard time staying awake this time  :) But we did get to see him in 4D ultrasound which we've never done before, so that was really cool. So fun! After our appointment we went to breakfast at Salish Lodge and took my first Month of Bumps picture. (cue shrills of excitement from everyone eager to see belly pics for the next 4 months!) Before taking the picture I (lovingly) assured Kevin that yes, we would be taking...

A Suburban NYE

We partied hard with neighbors for New Year's Eve this year, and it was perfect - no need to dress up, tackle crowds, or spend big bucks - add to that great friends who are also neighbors, and it's a win/win.

Merry Christmas!

May your day be Merry and Bright!
