It seems to be all I think about these days.
On a typical day, Kevin and I will go through about 4 conversations and then, "what do you think about Hillary for a girl?"
Being the sweet guy that he is, Kevin answers every time (bless his heart) which only perpetuates further query on my part.
With Abigail it was so easy. I have loved the name since elementary school, and Kevin loved it too, so it was quickly settled. But this time around it hasn't been so easy. Maybe it's because we don't know the gender, or maybe it's because I'm an over thinker (probably the latter...)
When our friends had their son, they waited until he was born to name him. I love that.
So, while we were in Arizona, we made a name list.
The idea was to update it each day with one girl and one boy name, but we found there were some favorites, and aside from those, we weren't interested in venturing out much.
Here's our current list:
how ironic are the "notes" pre-written on the Marriott notepad...
Have you been to Nameberry? It's a super addictive baby naming website and has helped us narrow down our choices.
Here are my thoughts on the names we've chosen so far:
Girls
Emma: we love it (!!) but then again, who doesn't (hence it's top 3 status). And while we won't let popularity dictate our decision, I'm not sure I want both of our kid's in the top 10. Kevin could care less, but I'm still mulling it over...
Clarie: our front runner! It's clean, simple, and classic, plays well with Abigail, and is Mamie's middle name to boot. You can't go wrong with family names.
Hillary: this one came to me last night. It seems a bit fussy at first, but I love it's classic ring. And the nickname Hill would be to die for. (so adorable for a toddler and teen chic!)
Samantha: I think I'm over it. (not a feeling you should have about a name that will stay with your kid forever)
Alexandria: I love Alex for a boy, but Alex for a girl was Kevin's suggestion. Is it too much to have an Alexandria and Abigail? I don't want to be the cliche 80's family of A's (but at least Kevin and I don't have A names...)
Caitlin: I've always loved this name, but not loving that played-out-in-the-90's feeling. That's why I love this spelling as opposed to "Kaitlyn", but still. I do however think Caitlin Claire could be the cutest name ever! And she could go by Cait? Kevin thinks we'd be too "Dehart-ish" (Lauckner's will understand that reference)
Boys
George: our front runner, but sometimes I get cold feet. "Hi, I'd like you to meet my friend George". On one hand I think "how old is your friend George?!" but on the other, I think it's classic and refreshing. So many strong names are making a comeback, but this one has yet to hit the charts, so I like that. Plus (big plus!) George Edward Lauckner would be a III (Kevin's Great Grandpa and Grandpa were both George Edward Lauckner's), and George is my Dad's middle name, so it's an all around win / win in the family name department.
Benjamin: Oh how we'd love a Baby Benny Boy! This was our boy name for Abigail, but I loved Benjamin George, and Kevin is set on Benjamin Edward (Edward for a middle name is a first born Lauckner tradition, so it will go without saying). I think it will be a meet-and-see-tiebreaker situation (between George and Benjamin)
Martin: Abigail & Martin. Could there be a cuter pair?! I am so sold, but I think I'm alone here. Anyone else agree with me? I think this name is just adorable! I can see the knee highs now :) Maybe if we have two boys, I can win in second round picks. My Little Marty Man. It makes my heart skip a beat.
Alexander: Alex. I love it. I'm sold. But again, it might be more of a second round draft choice.
Ethan: I love it's semi-trend but classic ring. But I'm not sure how it would go with Edward. It reminds me a bit of Ethan Allen...
So what do you think?!
Please email or comment, I'd love some candid feedback!
And don't worry, even if you hate the names, it won't sway us....much :)

If you spelled it K8Lin, I'd approve.
I hope it's a boy!! I think it is! Benny!
Ethan was on our list for a boy so that is my pick.
I like Clair for a girl.
George, Benjamin and I do like Martin because it so different, yet not too different!
