Ringing in the New Year

This year we headed to a cabin in Naches to celebrate the New Year.

Nestled in the woods with two feet of snow, and surrounded by snow covered trees, a hot tub, lots of games, and a cozy fireplace to snuggle next to, we enjoyed a perfectly relaxing weekend away from it all.

The cribbage board we purchased from the general store.  They had everything!

Abigail and Mamie play iPad games

While we spent most of the time relaxing, we did venture to White Pass on Sunday for some sledding fun!

The only expression we got out of her...

It was chilly in the shade, so we headed to the sun where Mamie ran back and forth with Abigail in her sled.  She was less than thrilled, but looked so cute.

People would comment:

"oh, it's a baby!!"

"how cute is THAT!"

After a few minutes (yeah, we're hard core), we headed back to the car; but not before stopping for one last run.

(check out Abigail's Warren Miller style video!)

While we were busy white-washing Abigail and earning Mother / Grandparent of the year awards, Kevin spent the day skiing.

It was the perfect day for some amazing views.

We spent New Years Eve Day at the cabin; sleeping in, lounging around in our PJ's, then heading out on our big adventure: a walk to the general store!

Keeping up the honors of my newly appointed Mother-of-the-Year award, we decided to let Abigail nap in the sled.

She was less than amused but stayed asleep the whole trip down and half of the ride home; it was a good nap  ;)

We tucked her in near the shelves while we shopped

Then back up we went!

After we got home and de-thawed, we relaxed the rest of the evening; playing games, watching movies, and eating obscene amounts of food.

Our New Years Eve menu included cheese, crackers, and pepper jelly, Kalbi beef short ribs, salmon, NY steaks, potatoes, and salad.  Topped with cookies, See's candies, and a chocolate silk pie.

No one went hungry.

Still mad about her frozen nap

Who needs toys?!
Although she did pinch her fingers in the cabinets.  Twice.

We all managed to stay awake til midnight but were extremely tired by the time it came around, so we quickly toasted with our just-purchased Extra Dry Cook's, then headed off to bed.

(oh, and we forgot Abigail's pack and play, so Kevin fashioned up a crib on the floor...)

...I'm slowly moving from Mother of the Year to CPS worthy.

Tuesday morning came and it was time to pack up and head home.  We had such a great time on our annual NYE getaway.  (here's a link to last year)

We're looking forward to 2013!

Happy New Year

20 week ultrasound

Yesterday Kevin and I went to our 20 week ultrasound.  Everything looked great and the two questions still lingering in my mind were confirmed. 1) Yes, it's a boy! 2) Nope, I'm not having twins  :) I've heard it a million times: with each pregnancy you pop a little sooner, but when I was in maternity pants at 12 weeks, I thought surely there must be two in there... Here are some pictures, if you'd like to see. During George's 20 week ultrasound Kevin admitted he'd almost fallen asleep, so I will admit: I had a hard time staying awake this time  :) But we did get to see him in 4D ultrasound which we've never done before, so that was really cool. So fun! After our appointment we went to breakfast at Salish Lodge and took my first Month of Bumps picture. (cue shrills of excitement from everyone eager to see belly pics for the next 4 months!) Before taking the picture I (lovingly) assured Kevin that yes, we would be taking...

Cocina Esperanza

Just had to give a shout out to our new restaurant find!  Kevin and I were driving around the Sunset Hill / Blue Ridge neighborhoods last weekend and came upon this little Mexican restaurant.  A very unassuming place...small brick building near the corner of NW 85th & 30th Ave (right next to the north entrance of Golden Garden's and Shilshole Bay Marina).  We finally got around to checking it out late last week, and oh boy, have we been missing out!! Now, any of you who know me, know I'm a self proclaimed Mexican food connoisseur...and by connoisseur, I mean boarder line obsessive.  I love all things Mexican cuisine...especially melted cheese.  So I should admit; their whole "authentic" label had me a bit apprehensive ...."will there be enough melted cheese on my food??"   was sadly my first thought  (hey, I'm pregnant...give a girl a break!)  So, late last week, we wandered in, found a nice table by the window, ordered t...

Two!

Yesterday you turned two; I can hardly believe it! Two year pictures, wearing a dress I wore when I was little You are such a funny, sweet little girl, and I love seeing your personality unfold more each day.  This last month you've really started coming out of your shell and love making people laugh; whether tickling "gee gee gee gee" , or joking around (the other day you took a doll house high chair and pretended to sit in it...all the while looking back at me smiling and laughing like "look, I'm going to try and sit in this teeny highchair!" ), you sure know how to make us laugh. Music is your first love.  Beach Boys Greatest Hits is the current album favorite , so we listen to it in the car every day.  Mainly to Barbara Ann (you always request "ba ba ba" ).  You also love listening to Swiss music with Grandma and having Dad play "Abigail Loves Cheese" on his guitar when he gets home at night. Schwingfest is this Saturday a...
