Annette Lake

Kicked. My. Butt.

Yesterday we headed up 90 for a day hike.  We were going to hike Rachel Lake (off Lake Kachess), but decided after a friend's recommendation to check out Lake Annette.

It was Abigail's first real hike, and she loved it!

....until we made a pit stop for snack time and she decided it was time to ride on Mommy...and only Mommy.

I hadn't planned on packing out the extra weight, but it sure gave me a good workout!

Lots of pictures below from the hike up.

We made decent time (about an hour and 50 minutes) which included lots of "oh-my-gawd-I'm-about-to-die" moments from yours truly, but the lake at the top was worth every step.

We found an inlet and set our blanket out for a picnic lunch while Abigail slept in the shade, and the water was a perfect temperature which allowed us to wade around for a bit as well.

As luck would have it, Abigail slept soundly through our time at the lake, so Kevin was able to hike back down with her, giving my back, legs, butt, and shoulders a break- hallelujah!!

We found a few spots at the lake where we could camp overnight, so we're tossing around the idea of exchanging the baby weight (sorry Bitz) for some camp gear, a few cold ones, and some tubes to float the lake...

We'll be sure to keep ya'll posted if we do!

20 week ultrasound

Yesterday Kevin and I went to our 20 week ultrasound.  Everything looked great and the two questions still lingering in my mind were confirmed. 1) Yes, it's a boy! 2) Nope, I'm not having twins  :) I've heard it a million times: with each pregnancy you pop a little sooner, but when I was in maternity pants at 12 weeks, I thought surely there must be two in there... Here are some pictures, if you'd like to see. During George's 20 week ultrasound Kevin admitted he'd almost fallen asleep, so I will admit: I had a hard time staying awake this time  :) But we did get to see him in 4D ultrasound which we've never done before, so that was really cool. So fun! After our appointment we went to breakfast at Salish Lodge and took my first Month of Bumps picture. (cue shrills of excitement from everyone eager to see belly pics for the next 4 months!) Before taking the picture I (lovingly) assured Kevin that yes, we would be taking...

Two!

Yesterday you turned two; I can hardly believe it! Two year pictures, wearing a dress I wore when I was little You are such a funny, sweet little girl, and I love seeing your personality unfold more each day.  This last month you've really started coming out of your shell and love making people laugh; whether tickling "gee gee gee gee" , or joking around (the other day you took a doll house high chair and pretended to sit in it...all the while looking back at me smiling and laughing like "look, I'm going to try and sit in this teeny highchair!" ), you sure know how to make us laugh. Music is your first love.  Beach Boys Greatest Hits is the current album favorite , so we listen to it in the car every day.  Mainly to Barbara Ann (you always request "ba ba ba" ).  You also love listening to Swiss music with Grandma and having Dad play "Abigail Loves Cheese" on his guitar when he gets home at night. Schwingfest is this Saturday a...

five months

Happy #5, Benny Boy! You have grown up so much this past month, and in the sweetest ways possible.  You adore a good tickle or friendly face and can't seem to soak in the world around you enough; every time I look at you, your eyes are quickly scanning the room, working hard to put all the pieces together. A smart little guy, you are  :) This month I moved you to the nursery.  It was becoming increasingly difficult to put Abigail and George to bed at night, but putting them together in a room has made bedtime simple - they love being together.  As such, you now have your own room!  It's so sweet being back in a nursery with a little one.  Since George was in our bedroom until he was 5 months, then living at Gma and Gpa's for another 6 months, he wasn't in his own room until his first birthday.  So, in many ways, having you in a nursery reminds me so much of my first time around the Motherhood block, and many nights it fills me with such joy just...
