Meet Molly: Our $200 goldfish

Well, not technically.

Here's what happens when you have too much time on your hands and decide to buy a goldfish in the name of cute nursery decor:

This was to be a $30 purchase.

We strolled into Pet Smart Sunday afternoon with a twinkle on our eye.  We were going to buy our little girl's first pet- how fun!

However, shortly after arriving, we awoke to our first reality:  a 1 gallon fish bowl for a 1" goldfish was not going to fly.

Duh?....

Apparently goldfish grow to a foot long (I'd like to see the day!) and these fish activists mean business.  So after some negotiating we walked away with a 2 gallon tank and a promise to put the fish in a 10 gallon tank in the next few weeks....

Slightly amused with our getaway strategy, we headed to checkout with Molly and Rodger  (Rodger is the snail we threw in for good measure...you know, as a friend for Molly...)  but got no further than check-out before coming across fish activist #2.

FA #2: "You have live algae, plants, or food for that snail, right?"
Kevin:  "No, but can't I throw some grass clippings in there?"

She wasn't amused...  back we went for $6 snail food

Finally, $52.70 later, we walked out with Molly (the fish), Rodger (the snail), a bag of gravel, a 2 gallon fish bowl, 1 fake plant, and both fish and snail food.

But I thought you said $200??

Well, allow me to finish...

Home we went, eager to set up Molly's new world.  I start by cleaning the bowl, then cleaning the gravel... in a strainer... over the sink.

Seems fine, right?

Wrong.

Let's just say gravel and garbage disposals are not friends...  And what's worse?  Washing it down and turning on the disposal to rid our sink of gravel.

(no picture needed...)

For the next hour I tried my hardest to scoop up the gravel, but nothing worked, and soon the disposal went from a loud grumbling, to complete silence...

So, come Thursday morning (my first day of maternity leave), what will I be doing?  Reading The Great American Novel, feet elevated, being fed grapes, while fanned with palms, by my loving husband?

Nope.

I'll be hanging out under our kitchen sink trying to get this disposal back up and running....

On the bright side, did I mention how cute Molly looks in the nursery?

Sure can't put a price on that!  ;)

20 week ultrasound

Yesterday Kevin and I went to our 20 week ultrasound.  Everything looked great and the two questions still lingering in my mind were confirmed. 1) Yes, it's a boy! 2) Nope, I'm not having twins  :) I've heard it a million times: with each pregnancy you pop a little sooner, but when I was in maternity pants at 12 weeks, I thought surely there must be two in there... Here are some pictures, if you'd like to see. During George's 20 week ultrasound Kevin admitted he'd almost fallen asleep, so I will admit: I had a hard time staying awake this time  :) But we did get to see him in 4D ultrasound which we've never done before, so that was really cool. So fun! After our appointment we went to breakfast at Salish Lodge and took my first Month of Bumps picture. (cue shrills of excitement from everyone eager to see belly pics for the next 4 months!) Before taking the picture I (lovingly) assured Kevin that yes, we would be taking...

Cocina Esperanza

Just had to give a shout out to our new restaurant find!  Kevin and I were driving around the Sunset Hill / Blue Ridge neighborhoods last weekend and came upon this little Mexican restaurant.  A very unassuming place...small brick building near the corner of NW 85th & 30th Ave (right next to the north entrance of Golden Garden's and Shilshole Bay Marina).  We finally got around to checking it out late last week, and oh boy, have we been missing out!! Now, any of you who know me, know I'm a self proclaimed Mexican food connoisseur...and by connoisseur, I mean boarder line obsessive.  I love all things Mexican cuisine...especially melted cheese.  So I should admit; their whole "authentic" label had me a bit apprehensive ...."will there be enough melted cheese on my food??"   was sadly my first thought  (hey, I'm pregnant...give a girl a break!)  So, late last week, we wandered in, found a nice table by the window, ordered t...

Two!

Yesterday you turned two; I can hardly believe it! Two year pictures, wearing a dress I wore when I was little You are such a funny, sweet little girl, and I love seeing your personality unfold more each day.  This last month you've really started coming out of your shell and love making people laugh; whether tickling "gee gee gee gee" , or joking around (the other day you took a doll house high chair and pretended to sit in it...all the while looking back at me smiling and laughing like "look, I'm going to try and sit in this teeny highchair!" ), you sure know how to make us laugh. Music is your first love.  Beach Boys Greatest Hits is the current album favorite , so we listen to it in the car every day.  Mainly to Barbara Ann (you always request "ba ba ba" ).  You also love listening to Swiss music with Grandma and having Dad play "Abigail Loves Cheese" on his guitar when he gets home at night. Schwingfest is this Saturday a...
