Mother's Day Weekend, 2014

We enjoyed a fun, relaxing Mother's Day in Sequim this year.

The plan was to leave bright and early Friday morning (around 5:30-6am) when George usually wakes, but we ended up closer to 8am.

With our track record, that's close enough  :)

The kids enjoyed the ferry ride.  Abigail and Kevin played on the deck while George and I sat inside eating oatmeal (George hasn't learned how to breath in the wind, so the ferry deck terrifies him).

We got to the place, baby-proofed everything (removing all knick-knacks, and half of the furniture), then settled in to enjoy a weekend at the beach.

Later in the day we drove to Port Townsend for dinner at Addie Mae's (ah-mazing!)  Then back at the place that evening, Abigail and I shared a room (she doesn't sleep well in unknown places; who can blame her), and Kevin and George had the other room.

Did I mention it was a romantic weekend away? :)

Saturday we thought it would be fun to take the kids to a game farm we'd read about.  Basically you drive into this place, buy a loaf of bread, and a bunch of animals come to your car window to eat.  Seems fun, right?

Well...

Aside from being assaulted by more than one buffalo, basically contracting elk diseases, and being generally disgusted by the obscene amount of seagulls and bread loaves, I suppose it was.

On the bright side, the kids LOVED being car seat free to run around in the back!

But would we do it again?  Absolutely not.

We were lucky our car came out alive.  The lady in front of us (top picture) had dozens of scratches and dents down the side of her car, and another came into the gift shopping asking for duct tape after a buffalo blew out her back tail light.

So enjoy the pictures, kids.  This was the first and last time we will ever do this.

After a stressful but amusing afternoon, it was time to get back to the place to enjoy the beach and some cocktails.

Blow-up mattress with blankets = an outdoor bed!

As an added bonus to the day, we had crab legs for dinner (which Kevin also used for crab Benedict the next morning!) and enjoyed a lovely sunset while watching seal lions pass by.

Sunday we spent the day in Bainbridge, window shopping and enjoying brunch at Doc's.  It was the perfect end to a relaxing, enjoyable weekend.

Thanks for the great weekend, my loves.  You make being a Mom (and wife) so much fun!

20 week ultrasound

Yesterday Kevin and I went to our 20 week ultrasound.  Everything looked great and the two questions still lingering in my mind were confirmed. 1) Yes, it's a boy! 2) Nope, I'm not having twins  :) I've heard it a million times: with each pregnancy you pop a little sooner, but when I was in maternity pants at 12 weeks, I thought surely there must be two in there... Here are some pictures, if you'd like to see. During George's 20 week ultrasound Kevin admitted he'd almost fallen asleep, so I will admit: I had a hard time staying awake this time  :) But we did get to see him in 4D ultrasound which we've never done before, so that was really cool. So fun! After our appointment we went to breakfast at Salish Lodge and took my first Month of Bumps picture. (cue shrills of excitement from everyone eager to see belly pics for the next 4 months!) Before taking the picture I (lovingly) assured Kevin that yes, we would be taking...

Two!

Yesterday you turned two; I can hardly believe it! Two year pictures, wearing a dress I wore when I was little You are such a funny, sweet little girl, and I love seeing your personality unfold more each day.  This last month you've really started coming out of your shell and love making people laugh; whether tickling "gee gee gee gee" , or joking around (the other day you took a doll house high chair and pretended to sit in it...all the while looking back at me smiling and laughing like "look, I'm going to try and sit in this teeny highchair!" ), you sure know how to make us laugh. Music is your first love.  Beach Boys Greatest Hits is the current album favorite , so we listen to it in the car every day.  Mainly to Barbara Ann (you always request "ba ba ba" ).  You also love listening to Swiss music with Grandma and having Dad play "Abigail Loves Cheese" on his guitar when he gets home at night. Schwingfest is this Saturday a...

five months

Happy #5, Benny Boy! You have grown up so much this past month, and in the sweetest ways possible.  You adore a good tickle or friendly face and can't seem to soak in the world around you enough; every time I look at you, your eyes are quickly scanning the room, working hard to put all the pieces together. A smart little guy, you are  :) This month I moved you to the nursery.  It was becoming increasingly difficult to put Abigail and George to bed at night, but putting them together in a room has made bedtime simple - they love being together.  As such, you now have your own room!  It's so sweet being back in a nursery with a little one.  Since George was in our bedroom until he was 5 months, then living at Gma and Gpa's for another 6 months, he wasn't in his own room until his first birthday.  So, in many ways, having you in a nursery reminds me so much of my first time around the Motherhood block, and many nights it fills me with such joy just...
