Let's Talk George

A week ago today (at this very moment!), I was in labor with George.

Fast forward a week and here we are as a family of four.  Abigail is taking a nap, Kevin is out for a run, and I am sitting here at my desk with a fresh baby in my arms, blogging away (some things never change).

Getting to know George has been a lot of fun!  While we are again blessed with a pretty relaxed baby, he is by far a more demanding eater than Abigail was.  On a typical night he wakes every 2 hours and will nurse as long as I let him.  Last night he broke his first sleeping record (4 hours!) from 4am-8:30am and I feel like a new woman.

Funny how empowering 4 straight hours of sleep can be when you've gone a week without it.

Anyway, let's talk George!

  • George is a boob guy.  His #1 hobby is nursing and when he's not nursing, it's still his favorite place to lay his head.  This is also how he slept his first night; cuddled up right there.  A real guys guy :)
  • George is an athlete!  He loves tummy time; hanging out on his blankie, moving his head from side to side, and kicking his little legs around.
  • George is a family man.  Mamie and Papa came to visit the night he was born, and every time Kevin would speak, little Georgie found his way to Daddy's voice.  He also seems fond of his sister, who is beyond fond of him!
  • George brings the appetite!  In his first week alone, we've given 2oz of extra milk after a few night feeding and he sucked it down in mere seconds.  I would guess those feedings totaled over 5-6oz!  And he still woke up 2 hours later ready to go again... he keeps me busy!
  • George marks his territory.  So far every person who has changed him has been peed on.

And where siblings are concerned, George and Abigail are getting along famously.  She adores him; talking in her doggie / kitty voice when playing with him, ensuring that I nurse a lot (she points to him then tries to pull my shirt down... between the two of them, I hardly get a break), and loves to hold him in her lap and pet his soft baby head. He is so blessed to have her as a big sister, and Kevin and I feel beyond grateful watching the two of them interact.

So far life with two is treating us well; we divide and conquer.  Once Kevin goes back to work and our Mom's (who are coming to stay with us the next two weeks.  Wahoo!), are back to their lives, I'm sure I'll be singing a new tune, but for now we're having so much fun with our new dynamic, parading our circus of 4 around town.

We are overjoyed with George and love him so much!

This makes me so happy and so sad at the same time. That last picture of Abigail with Georgie is the best. I'm so wishing we were there--hope December comes quickly!

20 week ultrasound

Yesterday Kevin and I went to our 20 week ultrasound.  Everything looked great and the two questions still lingering in my mind were confirmed. 1) Yes, it's a boy! 2) Nope, I'm not having twins  :) I've heard it a million times: with each pregnancy you pop a little sooner, but when I was in maternity pants at 12 weeks, I thought surely there must be two in there... Here are some pictures, if you'd like to see. During George's 20 week ultrasound Kevin admitted he'd almost fallen asleep, so I will admit: I had a hard time staying awake this time  :) But we did get to see him in 4D ultrasound which we've never done before, so that was really cool. So fun! After our appointment we went to breakfast at Salish Lodge and took my first Month of Bumps picture. (cue shrills of excitement from everyone eager to see belly pics for the next 4 months!) Before taking the picture I (lovingly) assured Kevin that yes, we would be taking...

Cocina Esperanza

Just had to give a shout out to our new restaurant find!  Kevin and I were driving around the Sunset Hill / Blue Ridge neighborhoods last weekend and came upon this little Mexican restaurant.  A very unassuming place...small brick building near the corner of NW 85th & 30th Ave (right next to the north entrance of Golden Garden's and Shilshole Bay Marina).  We finally got around to checking it out late last week, and oh boy, have we been missing out!! Now, any of you who know me, know I'm a self proclaimed Mexican food connoisseur...and by connoisseur, I mean boarder line obsessive.  I love all things Mexican cuisine...especially melted cheese.  So I should admit; their whole "authentic" label had me a bit apprehensive ...."will there be enough melted cheese on my food??"   was sadly my first thought  (hey, I'm pregnant...give a girl a break!)  So, late last week, we wandered in, found a nice table by the window, ordered t...

Two!

Yesterday you turned two; I can hardly believe it! Two year pictures, wearing a dress I wore when I was little You are such a funny, sweet little girl, and I love seeing your personality unfold more each day.  This last month you've really started coming out of your shell and love making people laugh; whether tickling "gee gee gee gee" , or joking around (the other day you took a doll house high chair and pretended to sit in it...all the while looking back at me smiling and laughing like "look, I'm going to try and sit in this teeny highchair!" ), you sure know how to make us laugh. Music is your first love.  Beach Boys Greatest Hits is the current album favorite , so we listen to it in the car every day.  Mainly to Barbara Ann (you always request "ba ba ba" ).  You also love listening to Swiss music with Grandma and having Dad play "Abigail Loves Cheese" on his guitar when he gets home at night. Schwingfest is this Saturday a...
