Abigail's first haircut

Yesterday we took Abigail to get her first haircut! In a perfect world I would have waited, but after more than a few comments from Kevin and others, I figured it was time. Especially when she started looking like this...  :) We celebrated this milestone with a pink sprinkle donut at Top Pot before the big cut.  Needless to say, this was the highlight! We talked about it all morning and when we finally got there she didn't seem to mind; they had Daniel Tiger on TV. Finally it was her turn, and Miss Lori called her over to the pink Jeep (cue shy girl nerves) . She never panicked, but she certainly wasn't amused by the Jeep, her haircut, myself, or Miss Lori, and she managed to make eye contact with no one the. whole. time. Since it was really just a bang trim (with a little cleanup around the sides), the appointment was relatively quick and painless. And Miss Lori surprised Abigail with an up-do :) But...

Our New Ride!

Long, long ago I promised myself I would never drive a minivan. I would get the "Mom-cut", I would stay home to raise my kids, and I'd probably do millions of things that embarrass them along the way, but I would never get a minivan. ...and so far I've succeeded. A few weeks ago the Mercedes had it's last go, so we've been on the search for a new car. The proverbial wheels began spinning and the 18 year old in me had so many great ideas: an A6 wagon, Porshe Cayenne, Tahoe... do they make an M5 wagon?!  But in the end, we decided on a Chevy Traverse (my first American ride!) and I couldn't be happier! It seats 8 (does this mean I can have 4 more kids?!) , has third row seating, and seat warmers. We picked it up Friday night and celebrated with a steak dinner.  Kevin's Papa had a great tradition: after buying a new car, he would go out for a steak dinner.  So we carried on the tradition at an Outback Steakhouse across from the dealershi...

4 Months

Happy Birthday, buddy! This morning I sit here with a big cup of coffee in hand.  Although this is my second time around with a wee-one, an unpredictable sleeper is new to my repertoire, and you've had me Googling "four month sleep regression" and lining windows with foil like a mad woman. It all started early this month (apparently you're ahead on this "milestone".  Yay us...)  You still go down every 2 hours (hour and a half if there's a lot of excitement), but the length of your sleep is unpredictable. And nighttime? Fuhgeddaboudit!   (you're up every three hours) But as with everything in Babyland, this too shall pass.  So for now I revel in bed-sharing, nighttime side nursing, and adorable morning coos as payment for working overtime  :) In other news, you've grown a TON this month and are really becoming your own person.  It's apparent that you know us well, and it's a joy to see your little face light up when ...

First Foods with George

Our little man is moving into the wonderful world of solids! A few weeks ago I started noticing the signs (sitting up well, making chewing motions, boredom with nursing, and an interest in what we were eating), so I figured he was ready. We started (last week) with bananas.  He made a few typically strange baby faces after taking his first bite, but once the flavor hit his little taste buds, he was all in! We stuck with bananas the first 4 days, then moved on to sweet potatoes (equally ecstatic) And I have a little helper -- Abigail LOVES feeding George. Supervising has been required, however  ;) One for you... One for me! In the midst of introducing solids, I'm on an elimination diet (George had some severely dry skin this winter, and I believe dairy may be the culprit), so we're sticking with sweet potatoes and bananas until I can figure out what's causing the skin irritation. Once that's figured out, we're on to carrots, peas, ...

Catching up in the New Year

I realize I've been neglecting the blog, but ( ironically ) I've been too busy enjoying the calm. Here's what we've been up to since St. Nick came to town: an overnight date (The Crown Plaza, Banya 5 , and sushi at Benihanna.  It was perfect), Seahawks games, New Years Eve at home (we made crab legs then went to bed at 11:20pm- I loved it!), planning G's baptism, a day trip to Leavenworth, the infancies of potty training Abigail, first foods with George, and the list goes on... It's nice to be back to plain-Jane life.  The kids were upside down on sleep by December 26th, so I've welcomed the tranquility. George turns 4 months next week and Abigail turns 2 1/2 next month.  I can hardly believe it. Anyway, here are some pictures from the past few weeks. All dressed up for NYE, compliments of Sissy "wiping" has been a highlight of potty training :) My little man on New Years Day My Sweet, Goofy Girl Enjoying bananas wi...
