Power to the Baby

Day two of avocados, and it's official: we have a fan! With one caveat:  Abigail gets to hold her spoon like a big girl. Yes, this makes for a messy meal, but compromise is key. Abigail gives one bite, Mommy gives one bite.  And so the story goes for half an hour until we come to the end- yes, she finished her full cup today!  ...this is riveting stuff, folks  ;) So we'll continue this deliciousness for another few days, then move on to our next food.  Any ideas?  I'm thinking sweet potato or peas. Email me if you have suggestions; I'm new to the world of baby food. All done!

Sisterly Love

As most of you know, Abigail wasn't my first baby... Minnie was! Minnie has been less than impressed with Abigail over the past 6 months, but she's finally coming around. Most recently, Abigail has elected Minnie her new BFF (best furry friend) We'll see how this goes... Poor Minnie... but such is the life of a big sister  ;)

The Littlest Foodie

Abigail + Carrots = likes them somewhat... Yesterday was the big day; we reeved up the Beaba and made carrots for Abigail! She's not keen on opening her mouth very far (so you have to shove it in there a bit), but she seems to like it. For the last few weeks she's been carefully studying us while we eat, and the last few nights she hasn't slept well (I'm thinking she was hungry), so we decided it was time to start solids. We even practiced a few days ago by letting her suck on an apple... But yesterday, aside from a few gagging bouts, she seemed very happy to be eating at the table like a big girl! This morning we gave her more and she seems to be doing great; still a but unsure, but pretty amazed by the whole ordeal. Once we clear carrots as a safe food, we'll be moving on to avocados.  Yum! For those of you interested in the play-by-play (read: Mamie, Papa, Gma, Gpa), below is the video.  Pretty b...

Relaxing in a Winter Wonderland

Oh Seattle snow days! Moreover, a snow day at my parents house (where the snow actually exsists!) We headed over Monday afternoon and have been enjoying this beautiful weather the last few days. The news reports about the "winter storm watch" have been constant and annoying, so we turned off the TV and headed out for a little fun. The best part about staying here?  Built-in babysitting while enjoying things like sledding and hot tubbing (thanks Mom and Dad!) Not sure why my arms are up like Superman... And inside we've been having a bit of excitement too.  Abigail started sitting on her own today!  Granted she's been refusing to roll over (switching out one trick for another?) but I'm sure she remembers how.... Indoor event #2: Abigail may be starting to enjoy bottles again- but this time she gets to hold them like a big girl... and stick them up her nose.. and nurse them without actually drinking.. while sucking her fingers... Okay, so m...

Baby Mullet

Who doesn't love a baby mullet?!  Fast forward 15 years, I'm sure Abigail won't-- but for now, it's too cute not to share! Kevin suggested we cut it, but I said no way!  We'll just cover it with something like this: Oh the life of a baby :) Wishing you a weekend full of great hair days.  Happy Friday!

Takin' Care of Business

After months of hard work and dedication, Kevin was promoted to a Consultant at Loft9 this morning! Abigail and I believe she played an integral role in this promotion ;) Kevin, I am so proud of you and admire your dedication.  This level of dedication spills into every aspect of your life and makes me so lucky to be your wife and life partner! So please, take a moment to join me in congratulating Loft9's newest Consultant. Great work Kev- I love you!!!

5 Months

Oh my gosh...we're almost half a year!  Which of course means I've started thinking about your first birthday (and maybe even bought a few things for your party?....) yes, I'm pathetic. Hanging out during tummy time this morning. Now that you roll over, tummy time is short lived  ;) Abigail, you continue to amaze us! In the last few weeks you've grown so much (rolling over, becoming increasingly more alert of people, places, and things) and continue to be such a joy in our lives. This month you started sleeping in your crib.  You sleep 12-13 hours straight every night (yes, I'm bragging!) and have been taking super naps (between 1-3 hour stretches at a time) You love being around people.  Whether staring at them or smiling at silly faces, you are constantly processing the world around you and it's so fun watching you do that. I do my best to enjoy every minute with you because I know these precious years are fleeting. Looking forward to the co...

Happy New Year

I'm totally exhausted coming into the new year, but feeling very blessed and thankful. Maybe I'm finally coming down from a five month high.  Whatever it is, it feels right and I'm excited for the year ahead. Late last week, Kevin decided we needed to get away for New Years weekend. So here we were Friday morning, browsing online for cabins.  Around 10am he found a great place on the Hood Canal, and by 2pm we were packed and ready to get out of Dodge. Spending the weekend with family was perfectly relaxing; a great way to reflect on the blessings of 2011 and ponder the year ahead with great anticipation. Highlights from the weekend include gathering oysters from the beach, kayaking, a hike in the Olympics, lots of good food, fireworks, hot tub happy hours, and best of all: family. Abigail was up with the sun Saturday morning, ready to go out with a bang. She didn't however make it to midnight  ;) Papa getting ready to head out to sea! ...
